As the dawn rose on the Northern half of the planet, and the moon on the Southern half. The planet Mobius was now entering the begining of what could very well be its last days. Aurora's warriors had completed their training in the Chamber of Time, their strengths enhanced and attitudes changed. Doubts washed away in the ripples of infinity. But there was darkness looming.
Legion's forces were swarming Robotropolis, overwhelming his meager robotic forces. His prime generals trapped miles away by his Judas. Shae was assisting the Shadow Queen, Tala, in awakening her new powers, making her stronger. The very beast himself was plotting his next advance, once the Queen had awakened, and the Scientist was out of the picture.. he would send his followers out to conquer the surface while his "Apostles" gathered the last remaining SoulGem shards.
Dark days lay ahead for Mobius.. the world, the universe, would be plunged into a war the likes it had never seen. The light versus the darkness.. the eternal struggle for balance... The Holy War of Ages..

The deathog exited the chamber and his first thoughts upon returning to the realm of waking were doubtful and bewildering. He had braved many, many vile evils whilst traversing his mind scape and yet when he left his branch of the chamber he was in his skeletal form. Stripped of flesh, tools of office, and cloak Syth could only ponder why his mental metamophesis had not prompted a physical change.
Syth pondered about the strange shell of light about him, why Aurora would encase him in a protective sphere suddenly became clear as the arcing bolts of electricity started to crackle off the deathogs form. At first it looked like his powers were charging up on their own, alarming at first but not an unfamilar feeling. But when the energies weren't disapating nor manifesting in some form of attack or defense his apprehension turned to dread once he realized what was happening.
Certainly Syth/Paladin had atoned for his sins in unlife but alas, it took time for the shell of the soul to follow. No more could a mechanic reverse the polarity of battery, the simplistic explanation of the body, than could the deathog suddenly and effortlessly expel his death energy and take in the light Aurora had to offer.
The red and black lightning was dancing all about and his bones knew pain, it felt like the very life of existance was burning out in him. All his reserves and the very energy that kept the deathog animate post mortem were gathering with out a conduit. Slowly, excruciatingly being pushed out by an inner light that could not heal something still so dead.
Falling to his knees the undeadite let out a soundless scream. His jaw bones creaking wide in the pain he was feeling but could not express. Near the peak, the shell started to crack, and those heroes nearest the deathog backed away. But in the end the shield held, and like a lightbulb blowing it's filament the power snapped off and the Goddess' spell slowly fading with it.
The bones of the deathog fell apart loosely, the once bleached white bone charred to a black, no red eyes were in the sockets and the helter skelter pile of skeleton looked pitiful indeed compared to the once mighty reaper. One of the attendants revrently picked up the pile and shuffled away with it. Offering no explaination or condolences to the group or the remains it carted away.
Meanwhile; Lucian was faring not much better. Mercifully, the passage of time had healed the vampire a bit. And the very heavy machinery had proved to be a sufficent shield from the sun as the vampire remained pinned beneath it. But sure enough, a black blood stained claw crunched it's way out of the morass of power melted shell. At first he recoiled, it was daylight out, and that strange flesh crawling feeling assaulted Lucian. It would seem the base's shields acted in a similar fashion to his own personal shield.
And much like some vile version of a pheonix the undeadite freed himself from the metal prison. A quick survey of the surroundings told the vampire much. The shields in place could only have been raised by Gulo. The dragon had extricated it's self from the defunct Hydra's and was now laying down in diagnostic mode. Not ready to go any where but still functioning enough to repair it's self. Goodie, Eggman wouldn't kill him for loosing his precious lizard.
Subconsciously brushing dirt from his cuff, only to find that that particular arm had been torn clean off Lucian subliminated his anger and focused on the now. After picking up a loose Hydra core, the central CPU and "brain" of a Hydra unit, the only thing you needed to make another one or collect any data from the battle in it's post-functioning state the vampire rolled the bit of machinery around in his hand.
A short and fairly pathetic throw cast the bot brain into the shields that shimmered around the the base's parimeter. The metal sizzled for a moment and scorched into nothing a faction of a second later. Expelling out a breath slowly, not that he needed it but more for expressive effect Lucian had a moment of lament.
"I have a feeling I'm going to be late for my meeting in the desert."

In the control room Gulo watched the monitors, spying the Vampire as he recooped. The cold steel wolverine stepped out from the booth, uncloaking his shuttle and starting its engines remotely. He slowly walked over to Lucian, his feet making a matallic clunk against the debris covered cement.
"Lucian, you look like a mangled wreck.. sorry I couldn't lend you a.. hand.. during the battle.. I was securing the command room and activating the auto-defenses.." said the Wolverine. "You.. didn't hear that last transmission from Eggman.. did you?"
Elsewhere Aurora led the remaining warriors out into the lobby of the palatial estate. She looked upon them all, seriousness about her face. She stood on a stone mantle, her body slowly turning to marble. And as quickly, another of the statues became animate, this one was that of a Mink. As she made her way back onto the carpet she began to speak.
"Warriors, soon you will be sent back to the plains of Mobius, no doubt Syntaru will be culling his minions and having them swarm the planet to guard the temples. It will be up to us to stop as many of them as we can, keep the shards out of his grasp.. for the time being however, take a quick rest in the dining hall, replenish your nourishments." said Aurora.
She walked up the grand staircase and entered a fair sized white room.. in the center of which, was the recently reduced pile of black bone that was Syth.
"Are you ready for ascension, Twighlight?" said the Goddess.

Lucian came out of his preditor crouch, instinctively hunching down to attack what ever had hailed him. Finding it to be the fully metal surrogate son of the Eggman, the vampire foolishly relaxed.
"The only thing I heard was the rending of metal and a great deal of ringing in my ears. Eggman hasn't said much to me as I don't tote around a communicator in my skull like you do and the worlds deadliest cell phone over there is still trying to uncross it's wires for when it took that blow to the head plate."
The undead stopped in his explanation. Gulo had had no back up with him, his systems seemed nominal and there wasn't a scratch on his shiny metal casing. Removing his sword, the vampire made to inspect the blade, cleaning it with his remaining shirt cuff, then speaking non-challantly.
"You certainly seemed to have faired better in the battle than the dragon and I. After all, you were first on the scene and you certainly were at the command post to set up the shields. But it begs the question, if you, Apophis and I are here safe and sound. Who's helping Ivo in the capital?"

Gulo flickered the lighting in his eyes, staring right at Lucian. In a cold, monotone voice, he replied.
"No one." said Gulo. "And I never said I was trapped here.. my codes still work.. it's only your and the Dragon's that don't.. because I locked them out."
The ironclad wolverine started to walk towards his shuttle, not saying another word. Leaving the vampire standing awestruck, at least, that's what he thought...
"You really ought to make smarter business decisions, Lucian.." said Gulo in a final mockery.
Elsewhere; Shae watched and waited for Tala to draw closer to his energy carbon-copy, so he could spring his trap. He observed from a distance, higher up on the mountain plain. Solid and solitary, waiting for the right moment.
"That's it.. closer.. closer.. then you'll learn the last lesson.." said Shae, chuckling lightly.

The pile of blackened bones rustled a bit, the animating force that made up Syth's body no more, only the imposing will of the Goddess gave any semblance of life to the deathog's charred remains. A small flicker of red light glowed in the depths of an eye socket in the Ex-reaper's son's skull, and a voice that seemed to be coming from another realm answered her holiness.
[glow=red,2,300]"Needs be as the devil drive's Goddess, ready or not, I have much work to do in thine service."[/glow]
Meanwhile; Lucian didn't take betrayal well. Least of all from an underling with a chip on his shoulder. HE was the angsty underboss damn it, and no one was going to steal his thunder. Still drained and the sun riding high in the sky the vampire threw caution to the wind and lunged at the imputent over grown toasters back, drawn magical blade leading the way.
Not the smartest move considering his opponet was armed to the teeth but after having one hell of a day that had just gotten much much worse Lucian, already unstable as ancient creatures go, he needed someone or thing to take his aggressions out on.

Aurora looked at the pile of bone, raising her arms out infront of her, palms flat. A white charge began to build around the blackened bone. Cackling and arching, a brilliant display. The Goddess began to speak..
"From that which was black, now be it turned white, from that which harvested comes he that would be the scale.. be he judge, be he exectutioner.. where once his office was born from necessity, now comes a rebirth for balance." said Aurora, the energy she conjured growing stronger.
Back on the battlefield of Aegis, Gulo's sensors read the oncoming attack of the weakened vampire. The wolverine's metallic tail shot out what looked like a bladeless hilt. It landed in his clawed hand and he clenched it tight, and from that pressure, a glowing yellow plasmic blade forged from the hilt.
Gulo swiftly turned, using the implanted boosters in his feet to glide just above the ground. He dodged to the right, the Rapier Blade scantly missing a key cervo in Gulo's neck. The wolverine swung his hand around, slicing down the blade, shattering its solid construct. He then kicked the vampire hard to the chest, knocking him to the ground.
He then sheethed his plasmic blade and walked up to the vampire, knelling down.
"You're as bad as dear old Father, predictable, pathetic.. and overconfidant.. enjoy your stay here at Casa de Aegis.. you'll be here a while.." said the wolverine, leaving to his shuttle, taking off South bound to Mobotropolis.

So this was the power of the cosmos, the energy that invigorated the very stars into their distant glimmering dance. The Power of Ages, of Creation, of Life. It was like all the deathog had held dear, all he had cared for or loved wrapped up in a energy so pure and calming even in the theroes of creation the undeadite no more knew peace. The Light feeled him, energized him, forged him anew.
And it tickled a bit.
As the power of the Goddess washed over the bones the obsidian tone slowly faded away, the somber white of bleached skeleton slowly returning. The pain and anguish the deathog had experienced slowly leeching away with the soot and cinder of his fizzled out powers of death. Never again could he cull the souls of the living in this form with out cause. No longer was he a creature of Thanatos, a child of darkness and death. Something more than mortal but far less of a god.
Paladin was being born.
The changes were subtle at first. Bone after bone rising up into the air, maintaining it's altitude until the full skeleton had assembled themselves into an aerial ballet of birth. Then the light coalecing around the creature started to be obsorbed. It knew what it was doing, it had done it in the Time Chamber. First, acknowledge the light, then shape it, then be it.
Bone locked into bone, muscle and sinew bloomed into existance. Followed by organs, fat, skin, and fur. A different kind of darkness obscured the deathog's vision as his eye lids covered his freshly healed eyes. Kept tightly shut the creation was only mostly finished. A spark of creation and the creature's heart started. The first working organ he'd had since dying so many millenia back. Like an internal drum, the thrumming of the organ began the life of a creature that could not say it knew the state for longer than most beings in existance.
Lastly, the simple robes and cloak of a pilgrim monk filtered and covered from the air. No dezien of Aurora knowing no longer of innocence should walk about unclothed, and so the silken robes formed. They excentuated the form and grace of the newly reborn deathog, the creature wasn't bad looking. This was the form of Syth had he grown to adulthood in life instead under the baleful eye Thanatos or the grim vissage of Syntaru.
For the first time Paladin Twilight blinked open his eyes. The crimson orbs of his heritage still present in an otherwise transformed face. The fur color remained as well but in this light, this posture, this form it seemed more wise to life instead of judgemental. All the same, those red eyes were scars, bound forever to be carried no matter what form the deathog took. Some things can not be healed he had though in the Time Chamber, and this certainly seemed true to hold in the real world of his life and creation.
Stepping down from the pedestal that had once held only bones burnt black by decit and death the reborn deathog knelt to the goddess, taking her hand, kissing it solemly and speaking in a lighter clear voice unknown to him.
"Thank you Aurora, Mother of Creation and Creature of Light. For the chance to make amends and serve you in a caste of my choosing. I swear, no darkness in what ever form it may take will sway me from the path we must take.
So I swear to you, Goddess of Life, Paladin Twilight is in your service till you need of me no longer."
Meanwhile; unlife had indeed gotten rough for the vampire. For why indeed with the current target of his rage slowly walking away to the only feasible source of escape did Lucian remain prone on the dirty ground?
Simple, several of his ribs were broken.
The impromptu rest under a pile of scrap metal and no sustainance to heal himself left the bloodsucker weak indeed. Gulo, not being a novice to combat nor weak in his roboticized form had probably calculated the proper use of force necessary to cripple the vampire but not kill him.
Lucian would have tipped his hat to the imbittered robot if he wore one, or could move his arm with out screaming like a girl. The strike had proven very effectual, struggling to stand the vampire barely made it to the shade of a near by building before the temporary drop in the shields fried the vampire on the spot. All the same his boots were exposing and sharing an undead and unholy nature were consumed by the short stint in unfiltered sunlight.
Powerless, friendless, revengeless, and now bootless the vampire waited for darkness to roll in. When his repairative powers were at their peak. When he was well enough to walk and by walk not shamble into walls that weren't moving in the slightest the creature of the night swore he'd get off this island in the middle of the mainland and find the imputent creature named Gulo and gut him like kitten that had ambled too close to a zombie.
A click of metal on metal broke the vampire's concentration on bloodlike oil filled vengance. A small hatch opened up on the side of Apophis' head, and out popped an egg. A moment later a smaller version of the dragon broke free of it's casing. After doing a brief scan of the area it locked in on Lucian and waddled, in the cute way smaller versions of killing machines can, it found it's self staring intently at a rather confused and half delerious vampire. "SQWEAK!"
The thing sqweaked at Lucian, it seemed it wanted the vampire to touch it. A brief pause to consider that this could either be a trap or his salvation the nightcrawler decided to gamble and tap the creature on the head. Petting it for a few moments the creatures eyes went blank as if it was processing some data.
"Data collection complete. Synthinization of speech algorythmns complete. Rebooting records and restarting program.
Greetings new user, I am Duro, the back up opperating system for project name Apophis. I am a portable version used for diagonsitc work and assistnace in the event that the main body is inopperable. Such an occation has transpired.
What are your commands, Master?"
The dragonlet turned it's head to the side, awaiting some sort of order. After it didn't react the the speech responses it got. But hysterical laughter isn't really much in the way of actionable input the robotic lizard waited patiently. When Lucian finally calmed down a wide smile was splayed about his fanged features.
Perhaps his time in the Aegis Base was not going to be as long as he thought it would be!

Aurora looked about the reborn form of Syth/Twilight. She was pleased with this, no longer was the office of death bound in darkness, but in its rightful place in the balance.
"This is a most wonderous event, since your soul's corruption by Syntaru those ages ago, I have longed to see your semi-mortality restored.. you are most welcomed addition to the Court, Judicator, Vanguard Twilight." said Aurora, walking from the room into the hall. "Your tool is in my chambers, once you have reclaimed it, come join us in the dining hall, where we will discuss our plan of attack.."
Aurora left her newest acquisition to grow akin to his surroundings, his new post-life and the charges of his appointment. She walked downstairs, taking her time.. she was deep in thought.
The only reprocussion of this lies in Thanatos, our youngest sibling, what stand wilst he take on the denial by his own offspring? He already harbors a cold resentment toward me.. thought the Goddess.
As if on cue, the room swirled in a heavy fog. A rift in existence, containing only the Goddess, and her guest, Thanatos.
"SISTER, I DOUBT NOT THAT YOU WERE EXPECTING THIS.." spoke Thanatos, the sibling who chose his essence form rather than corporialization, a floating etheral cloud clad in a heavy dark robe. "WHERE IS HE?"
The Goddess stood tall and stern, staring directly in to the glowing yellow lights that were the manifested eyes of Thanatos.
"He, is no longer of your ilk, dear little one, this was destined to transpire long before you and Syntaru made your arrangements.. this is his rightful place.. you in all your neutral boastings, should have known better than to be in co-ursion with our brother.." said Aurora.
Thanatos wafted back and forth some in the misted fog, the glowing yellow lights flaring and fading like a flickering flame. He manifested the discarded scythe infront of him.
"THIS SIMPLE DESIGN, THIS TOOL OF HARVEST, IS HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE.. HE IS MY OFFSPRING, HE WAS BORN WITH MY ESSENCE IN HIS SOUL.. HIS POSITION HERE IS NO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT HE WAS CHARGED TO CARRY OUT UNDER MY REALM." said Thanatos.
"THAT, young Thanatos is where you are wrong, it is different, where in your service he was tainted with the tithes of shadow, he is now restored to his pure existence, serving the just of the universe.. you lost any relation you had to him when you dealt with Syntaru.." said Aurora "As I said, his place, his destiny, lies with the light.
"THIS GRIEVANCE WILL NOT OBSOLVE IN SIMPLE PROPHECIDE, SISTER, IT IS NOT THE FACT HE IS CLAIMED IN THE LIGHT, IT IS THE FACT YOU DID NOT FEEL OBLIGED TO SHARE THIS OMNIPOTENCE WITH ME.. I CATERED TO MY SON, AS ANY FATHER WOULD.. THOUGH COLD AND STERILE A BOND.. WE ARE STILL A FATHER AND SON.. KNOW THAT THOUGH I NOW ACCEPT THIS EVENT, I WILL NOT FORGIVE YOUR DISHONESTY WITH ME.. FROM THIS DAY FORTH.. YOUR VANGUARD AUGUSTUS WILL BE OUR ONLY COMMUNICATION.. I TURN AWAY FROM YOU, AND RENOUNCE OUR LINEAGE.." said Thanatos, the spectral fog fading and his form with it.

Stealth leaned back agisnt the tiger statue in the dining hall looking at his paw once more, clenching it and relasing it with a frown on his face."What the hell didi I do back there...."he whispered under his breath to look warily at the other warriors assembled there. Yes he had these powers but still his darkness was weakend not destroyed. He knew what he had to do, fight that shadow bastard...still though...was he strong enough. Stealth frowned as a ball of white energy formed in his hand mysteriusly. By instnct he clenched it and in a small flash of white light it formed into a blade of white energy. He sighed and held the blade to his face. "Look out shadow beasts.... Im comming through..the enchida isnt the only one with a light show now... still I would kill for some ammo."
Legion smirked as he stood on an overlooking hill watching explosions flare up in robototropolis streets. The battle had become a varible tug of war between the eggmans forces and his own. Simon smirked as he raised his hand giving the signal for his transports to begin anopther bombing run the evieng sky lighting up in an unholy swatch of destruction.

Tala, taken aback by Shae's counter attack stopped her rushing forward, suprised to see a large crater where the bat once stood. She crept forward cautiously, not hearing or smelling anything but the remains of smoke upon the wind and something in the back of her mind twinged in concern... the blast was a large one but it was too easy, it could not have destroyed the old bat. Looking into the crater her confusion is lifted only slightly as she sees Shae's body laying deathly still at the bottom of the crater. The lemur was well trained and certainly not about to go waltzing up to the enemy, knowing enough creatures who had a habit of playing dead just to get the predator to go away.
She places one dagger back within its sheath but keeps the other in her paw and with steady aim she throws it down. It flies smoothy and hits with a dull thud in the rock just between the bat's groin. He does not even twitch a muscle and she raises a single eyebrow, knowing that either he had to be quite hurt or very good at playing possum to not move after such a close blow. At this moment she finds herself torn, not sure if she should leave the bat to die in the crator or if she should check on him. Her every finely tuned sense continues to jab at her, as if something is still terribly wrong but being so new to her powers she finds she is not sure what to trust anymore. With a sigh she hops down into the crater, using the shadow energy to buoy her down safely and she lands gently beside the bat, and she moves her left foot forward in a swift kick to the chiroptera's boot.
____
No one had explained the sudden disappearance of Syth and most of the Warriors of Light seemed so preoccupied with their own coming out of the chambers that perhaps they did not even notice. Regardless, one certainly did notice, the lively green-eyed cat had noted that he was not around and it made her normally cheerful face frown in confusion. With a deep breath she went through the motions of being accepted by the Goddess, though the touch upon her shoulder did certaily seem to bring a fair amount of peace.
CC had noted, with her keen eyes, the Fox, Stealth, playing with his powers, seemingly suprised that they actually worked. Her eyes searched the crowd for the other face that intrigued her, Psychosis. Finally her eyes land upon his fine form and she smiles and nods, he seemed relatively unshaken by whatever he had gone through in the chamber. A deep rumbling in the pit of the cat's stomach informed her that she had indeed been in the chamber for 24 hours and it would perhaps be a good time to follow the Goddess' directions and go find some grub.
Unusually quiet the cat uses a burst of energy learnt from inside the Chamber of Time to get to the dining hall before most others, the use of her energy being proof to her that she was not dreaming all, or at least most, of what she went through within the chamber. Once she makes it to the large dining hall she lets out a relieved giggle and it quickly turns into a full out laugh which leaves her leaning against a wall, clutching her sides with tears of joy running down her face.

Halo was gasping looking down at his hand, his fingers twitching back and forth as he looked at the blood stained fur. It was his own blood, his own punishment for needing to feed his way to remind himself that he was a spawn of hells evil. Slowly the blood trailed down his arm till it dripped to the ground few spots of crimson scattered around his feet.
Closing his eyes and gritting his teeth he clenched his hand into a fight fist his body shuddering in response to the pain that shot from him as he tensed up the self inflected wound. Leaning his hand down against his fist he sobbed softly falling back and leaning against a dirty brick wall behind him he shook his head from side to side. “Why....damn it why?” Tears leaked from his eyes but the echidna didn’t notice them on his cold dead skin, the same as he didn’t know the warm blood was slowing down as his wound sealed itself up.
The young vampire stayed leaned up the wall while his blood and tears mixed on the ground under him as he let both leak and stain his pure white fur. “Why?” He whimpered softly out to himself his ears folded down against his head as he forced his eyes open, the narrow slits looking down at the puddle of watery blood, his ears folded down against his head.

Night had come at last to the Aegis Base, sure as the sun did set the vampire was limping about. His new toy, Duro, perched obidiantly on his shoulder Lucian wandered about the area looking for a way into the base or at least for something to arm himself with.
"So, you're like the brain of the big twitching lizard's body right?"
"Sqweak! Affirmative, I am the opperating system responsible for cognative thought, order relays and logical thinking."
A quick hand took the metal creature off his shoulder both hands tightly creased around it's neck.
"So it was you who took a swipe at me while issuing orders and another to 'assist' me while I was incumbered by Hyrda's. . . ."
Duro thrashed about, not in pain as he couldn't feel any but the physical defenses of this body were poor indeed. Much like the soft grey matter inside a skull this thinking creature was fairly defenseless and the merciless crush of Lucian's tightening grip was proving to be more than the dragonlet could bare.
"I was overwhelmed and over taxed. The mission parimeters changed before I could account for the changes in tactics. You seem to know more about the robots we were fighting than myself or Master Ivo did.
Besides, let's see YOU draw that much fire and no end up looking like an overripe slice of swiss cheese!"
The two stared at one another, logically, the scaled CPU was right. Lucian himself had been over taxed and had performed poorly. And he had a critical thinking mind that could think on the fly. Apophis, or Duro as it was, had only preprogramed algorithums to go by. So the dargon's poor choice in tactics was wrought not from insubordination or a wish to see the vampire harm but by a lack of information. Replacing the lizard to his shoulder, and smoothing out his fine scales the two walked on in silence for a time, taking in their surroundings.
"I don't suppose you could hack into the communications for this base and contact our boss could you? Some how I have a feeling Gulo wouldn't make things that simple. . ."
"Negative, my personal long range communications are down with the main host body. I've already scanned the area for the relay tower and could only spot a freshly sautered nub meaning that bad egg planned this whole scenario while we were. . .inopperable."
"Well then, we're locked in and can't call out. Guess we'll have to work with what we've got then. What is this place anyway?"
"Aegis Base, storage facility, priority top clearance. Holding are listed as important but not articulatory notes are forthwith in my data base. Leading me to believe that either this is a fresh acquisition not readily available to the network for me to download previous to Apophis running diagnositic mode or it's a secret project Master Ivo didn't want leaked in the event a unit was captured and disassembled."
There was a pause."So that's just a real fancy way of saying 'I don't know.' then."
"Sqweak! Affirmative."
The two walked on, finally Lucian made a complete circle and found himself back at the pile in front of the doors to the main base he had uncerimoniously landed in and crawled his way out of. He shot a glare at Duro who just blinked back, it would appear the CPU was neither apologetic nor menacing.
"Gulo apparently sealed the doors before running away like the coward he is, if I can patch in to the base's internal network I should be able to hack my way in past security and open the doors in about three hours. . ."
The sound of rending metal split the quiet night calm.
"Or, you could tear the door off the hinges. That works too."
The vampire only grinned that fang filled maw of his, the small robot seeing it's purple eyed reflection in one of those teeth decided not to question the volitile undeadite further.
Once inside, they noted that the room it's self was a hallway of many doors the last of which directly across from the entry way was an elevator. Slowly stalking his way across Lucian made for the portal to sink lower into the base's depths. Something important was stored here and the curious bloodsucker planned to find out what it was.
